At Dusk (The conclusion)
This is fiction. Totally fake. Nothing real. Don't berate the author.

After Fred's visit, I began to notice all sorts of things I'd never noticed before, like the telephone poles on the side of the highway. They'd built them all perfect and neat, spaced out just right, so the lines didn’t sag, but also so they weren't too taut.
In town I started to notice other people existing in their own lives. One person in particular was the new girl they'd hired at Betty’s. She was pretty.
People at work still talked about the Johnson boy every day, but now I could tune it out. That subject became about as interesting to me as the football scores and the new highway they were building so you could get to the Wal-Mart quicker.
All I cared about was my workday ending so I could go home and be alone.

It was three Thursdays after the accident when I heard the big news at work.
